Redesign the transfer

Numeric changes apply on Enter or when leaving a field. Sliders update immediately. Editing either view creates a visitor redesign.

Gross load includes an assumed 2 kg tote. Destination hand height = bench + 15 cm; measure actual grip height for real work.

Workstation geometry

Pickup and precise-placement hand positionsEach endpoint has its own ankle reference. Pickup H 45 cm, V 30 cm; placement H 35 cm, V 100 cm. Fixture bench 85 cm. This dimensioned schematic does not represent a worker or a carrying route.PickupH 45 cm · V 30 cmAsymmetry 45°Local ankle datum / floorPlacementH 35 cm · V 100 cmAsymmetry 0°Local ankle datum / floor

H measures horizontal hand distance from the local ankle midpoint. V measures hand height from the floor. These two endpoint views use separate stance references; they do not draw a carrying route or a worker.

Conceptual reach reference / 35 cm

Pickup: 45 cm · beyond design reference

Placement: 35 cm · within design reference

Reference only; no body-size percentile or universal reach limit. Access is clear; toe, knee and fixture clearance need a measured workstation review.

Scope and controlling endpoint

Assessment basis

Pickup controls this lift. Gross load 12 kg ÷ RWL 7.47 kg = LI 1.61.

short duration · required recovery 45.0 min · vertical travel 70.0 cm (effective D 70.0 cm). Both endpoints are assessed because placement requires significant control.

Frequency is a representative 15-minute task-window rate. It is separate from requested skids per week and does not create a production schedule.

NIOSH method and application limits

Hypothetical countermeasures

Compare design decisions

Present hands at 75 cm, shorten both horizontal distances, remove asymmetry and specify suitable handles. Assume 14 s per transfer; verify by work study.

Two 5 kg payloads in 2 kg totes replace one 10 kg payload: 7 kg gross each. Double the lift rate and transfer count; assume 12 s each. Lighter loads can add handling work.

Conceptual assisted transfer, assumed 24 s. RNLE does not rate this task; assess residual manual work and equipment suitability separately.

0.00 lower lifting index than baseline. 0.0 s less assumed handling per equal-payload bundle.

A proposed standard-work revision is included in the export with measurement, timed-trial and review steps. It remains unverified and unapproved.

Multipliers, equations and model limits

RWL = 23 kg × HM × VM × DM × AM × FM × CM. LI = gross load / smaller endpoint RWL.

HM = 25/max(25,H); VM = 1 − 0.003|V−75|; DM = 0.82 + 4.5/max(25,D); AM = 1 − 0.0032A. FM comes from Table 5 using origin V and duration; values between supported rows are linearly interpolated. CM comes from Table 7 at each endpoint. Zero-frequency-factor regimes are excluded.

Endpoint factors; no RWL or LI for unsupported scope

  • Fictional geometry, loads, schedules and timings; no employee observation, injury prediction or workplace approval.
  • One task only; no Composite Lifting Index or multi-task/day exposure model. Frequency is an assumed representative 15-minute task rate, independent of weekly skid demand.
  • Both lift endpoints are checked because fixture placement needs significant control. FM uses origin hand height for both endpoints.
  • Scope assumes firm footing, suitable temperature/humidity, normal motion, unrestricted standing access and little other strenuous handling. Unsupported conditions receive no RWL or LI.
  • A lifting index at or below 1 does not establish safety for every worker or eliminate other ergonomic hazards.
  • The reach reference is a conceptual design target, not an anthropometric percentile, reach limit or clearance certification.
  • Times are editable work-study assumptions per reference bundle, not measured improvement, capacity, staffing or a simulation.
  • Mechanical assistance is not rated by subtracting support force from the load. Residual manual tasks need a separate assessment.
